But while the endgame freeze and far too linear progression of the title are certainly issues, Riding Camp is a fair experience overall. That's less than ideal, and the sort of oversight that brings to mind the negative memories associated with the first Horse Adventures game. I thought you might be able to select to revisit some of the past week's nature treks, but you can't - and if you try to check your diary to see what's next on the agenda, the game will actually just freeze up on you. By the time Sunday rolls around, you've experienced everything Equestria has to offer, and the game ends. You wake up on Tuesday, and follow the same procedure. The 2D character art, seen on the top screen, is a bit easier on the eyes than the 3D renderings seen below. At the end of the day Barbie's friends Nikki and Teresa invite you to play a mini-game, and then it's off to bed. Then you have a riding lesson, then a nature trek. You start out on Monday with a trip to the stables and a horse care activity. You're quickly introduced to the local riding camp's headmasters, riding instructors and stablehand. You take control of Barbie as she arrives at the tropical island of Equestria, an isolated vacation spot entirely dedicated to horses. Luckily, though, this new DS edition isn't nearly as bad as that predecessor was.

They'll only have a week to do it all, though, because this camp closes after just seven days.īarbie Horse Adventures: Riding Camp is the latest sequel in a Barbie sub-franchise that dates back to 2003 - you may remember its first installment, Barbie Horse Adventures: Wild Horse Rescue, for the infamous ridicule it received in X-Play's "0 out of 5" review and the fact that its Xbox version inexplicably gained backwards-compatibility with the next-generation 360 long before much more notable games.

The price is a little steep at around $20 for a PC version and almost $50 for the Wii version. However, most horse loving little girls don’t seem to mind. The graphics of the game are not great, and nothing seems super realistic. You can, however, only have 5 horses on the game. When you win ribbons, it allows you to unlock new horses on the game. The races are pretty easy, and the entire game can be beat by a little girl in a few days of playing. The races have fun jumps, and beautiful scenery. Your Barbie can ride her horse in a timed event and win prizes and ribbons. Another fun mini-game inside this game is horse races. Your Barbie has a map to help you locate things for the quests, and a cell phone that helps her make calls get the quests done. Most quests are simple like fixing something, or finding a lost item. After you get a horse, you can travel around the island on your horse and continue to do quests for the island’s citizens. You can tame, train, groom, and feed different kinds of horses. When quests are completed, you will receive gifts and money awards. The islands are basically a little world, with places for you to do quests.
